Antica Sosta dei Viandanti
Located in via Fiesolana, 2 minutes walk from Synagogue.
Antica Sosta dei Viandanti arises on the foundations of an antique inn, dating back to the XV Century.
7 apartments; each one has a double bedroom, bathroom (with sauna-shower), dining room with full-furnished kitchen. In all dining rooms there is a sofa-bed for a third person. Apartment n.1 has a very large dining room with a big sofa-bed for 2 people. Apartment n.2 has a sofa-bed in the dining room for 1 person plus a cave. Cave is extra room in the basement with a big sofa-bed for 2 people. Cave has a dining room with an armchair and a sofa-bed for 2 people. It is small and comfortable room but no window. This accommodation is good for families with children and for group of friends traveling together.
Here, when the city was still
surrounded by huge walls, lived merchants who arrived in Florence through the
nearby Porta De' Pinti. It was distinguished as one of the economic and
cultural centers in Europe. Via Fiesolana, which connected Florence with Fiesole,
was the arrival point for all people from the northern countries.
After encountering the chill of the mountains and the views of the flourished
hillsides, they would finally enter Florence. In the various inns close to Santa
Croce, merchants, vagrants, bankers and warriors found much hospitality.
This incredible blend of customs and traditions created a wonderful atmosphere
for diverse cultures. In Antica Sosta dei Viandanti, many characteristic
elements of the pre-existent inn are still evident today in the original parts
of its structure. The brick archways and antique beams give witness to the life
spent in this building for more than five hundred years.
The two main courts, which are situated between the antique walls of the inn,
are full of beautiful plants typical of the Tuscan Region. The warm and precious
furnishings combine with particular colors of the rooms to create an atmosphere
typical of the Tuscan tradition. The environment is spacious and comfortable.
The apartments are functional, optimally furnished and give a real sensation of
"feel at home" living in the center of Florence. The new technology along with
the pre-existent elements, such as the arches and capitals, collectively invoke
a natural coexistence of the past and the present.
